Local Search Drives Offline Purchases

• Category: Industry News

Consider these statistics:

  • As much as $500 billion in offline purchases was influenced by the internet in 2007 (eMarketer)
  • 89% of consumers making in-store purchases in key categories have conducted research online (BIGResearch)
  • 82% of people using local search sites followed up with an offline action, e.g. in-store visit, phone call (TMP Directional Marketing)

Local search isn’t just about “pizza and plumbers,” but about the effect search marketing can have on driving conversions, SMX Local & Mobile co-chair Greg Sterling said in a recent webcast. “Consumers buy most of the stuff they buy in the real world. And most of those product purchases… are being influenced by the Internet,” Sterling said.
