Social Media Landscape 2007 to 2010

There is no question that social media has taken the Internet like a firestorm. Names like Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, etc., are almost as household terms as Google itself. From the initial social aspect of the Internet, the e-mail, then later instant messaging such as MS Messenger, the World Wide Web has always been meant for communication and interaction. It was only a matter of time that social Web would emerge as the giant it is today. The first decade of the 21st century has been the decade of social media. Not only that but also has been the decade of struggle for social media dominance. The blog at Flowtown has designed a map of the social media world as it is today in 2010. The map was inspired by an earlier original by XKCD made in 2007. Seeing the two maps side-by-side (or one on top of the other) presents a very interesting look at the power struggle in the world of social media.
